It was reported that early this morning Amanda Nunes was feeling ill, and although she tried to push through she would ultimately decided that she was unable to compete. According to Dana White, She was taken to the hospital and medically cleared, but does not feel able to fight. The main event will now be Romero vs. Whittaker for the interim middleweight title. Though Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Valentina Shevchenko campaigned to fill the main event spot themselves, both taking to social media to express their hopes of fighting each other. The bout could not come together, in an interview with ESPN, Dana White said, “I can’t throw my 115 pound champion in with this 135 pound woman who’s had a full training camp and is ready to fight, even though I love and respect Joanna Jedrzejczyk for stepping up and even considering doing this, we couldn’t get it done as far as her medicals and all the things that need to be done, but she has been asking me for this fight up until an hour ago.”
The competitive spirit of the champion is uncanny in the women’s division.
