Daniel Cormier is perhaps the best representation of a Champion the UFC has ever had, and being so closely attached to Jon Jones has provided a fascinating storyline throughout most of his career as Champion. But for the first time ever without Jon Jones, he has the opportunity to prove that he may be the greatest Champion ever.
Instead of Jones, Cormier will face the greatest heavyweight champion in UFC history, Stipe Miocic. The two will stand opposite each other as coaches of The Ultimate Fighter season 27 and are scheduled to do battle at UFC 226, July 7.
Cormier can become one of only five fighters in UFC history to hold several different titles in the UFC, and only the second to do so at the same time.
Stipe Miocic can also cement his championship legacy even further by defending his title against another truly great champion in Daniel Cormier.
The pair picked up decisive victories and retained their titles at UFC 220, in Boston.
Cormier beating Volkan Oezdemir via TKO in the second round of the co-main event, and Stipe winning by unanimous decisions over Francis Ngannou in the cards main event.
With filming set to start next week, the anticipation for the newly proclaimed heavyweight bout of the century begins.
