Don’t worry, the Titan FC flyweight and bantamweight champion Jose “Shorty” Torres has not been arrested. It turns out he’s just been blocked on social media by match maker Mick Maynard.
In reference to all the buzz Jose told Canvas Conversations, ” I called out Mick, Sean and Dana in a social media post about not calling me for the UFC. It’s been my most popular post yet, getting a lot of support, so thank you everyone!
Mick got slightly offended that I did that because I made it seem that he had not reached out to me, but he has on multiple occasions. Sadly on all of the occasions I was offered something, a last minute fight, and a couple of chances at the Contender Series, I was recovering from injury.
I was simply stating that they haven’t called me up to the UFC with a full fledge contract. I will not fight until November because of my injury and wanting to know that I am healthy enough to fight safely again, but I keep getting offers for July and August.
I want and believe I deserve a four fight contract with the UFC. It’s never good when the match maker you’re supposed to impress blocks you. So I decided to create the #FreeShorty campaign post. I have teammates Curtis Blaydes and TJ Dillishaw fighting on the November card that I would love to join. I see it as a perfect fit for my self. Fighting with my friends, and teammates, and at MSG, it would be a dream come true! So, I’m campaigning hard for all of the above.”
Shorty’s attempts at cracking the UFC roster have not gone unnoticed, but it seems as though the waiting game continues for the double champ. With November being several months away there is still much that can happen.
